NEWSLETTER 2019 TREK
The response to our 2019 trek has been fantastic and we are pleased to say we are fully booked and we have a full volunteer crew!!
Those of you who are flying to the trek please fly in and out of Invercargill Airport. Arrive before 1.30pm on Saturday the 16th March and we will have you at the airport by 9.30am on Sunday the 24th March. Please let us know your arrival and departure times if you have not already done this.
Those leaving their vehicles at the end campsite at Slope Point n Saturday the 16th March, our bus will depart there at 1.00pm so please allow time to park up and board the bus.
The start campsite is at the Tapanui A & P Show Grounds. Horse paddocks and camping will be available on friday the 15th March but you will be responsible for your own food and horses.
Saturday 16th March is organised ciaos with people arriving and the set up of campsite. If anyone is available to help with putting up of tents and the marquee your help would be gratefully accepted!
The route is looking amazing…Brad has managed to find a few Hepa hills (not mountains) and there is a great variation in terrain from rolling hills to dairy farm lanes. There will be a few good climbs to amazing views, a few river crossings (nothing big) and some lovely forestry. The only thing we can’t control is the weather so come prepared. The temperature can change within hours so be prepared to carry warm clothes with you each day….even if it is sunny when you leave camp!!!
Once again we have met an awesome bunch of Southern Landowners whose hospitality and support has been amazing.
We will only be trekking for five days (rest day after 3) this year. Saturday the 23rd March will be a day of celebration and we will have buses available for those that don’t have vehicles at the end campsite to take you to Bluff. Lindsey will be there to take photos. Our shuttle vans will be at Bluff to run shuttles between Bluff Lookout – Bluff – Invercargill to visit “Transport World” an amazing truck museum created by RW Richardson. This company has supported our trek with a diesel tanker, fuel and accommodation for some of our volunteers so we would appreciate our trekkers supporting them by visiting the museum.
Family members and friends can come and joining the celebrations on Saturday. People will need to pre register by 1st March, contact Kitty email email@example.com for details.
The trek guide will be out later in February with more details.
